This fall’s rapidly approaching election for governor will set the tone for life in New Jersey during the next four years. With our state’s values under attack at the national level, New Jerseyans have the opportunity to fortify those values here at home. The next resident at our governor’s mansion, Drumthwacket, can either strengthen and expand our rights, or remove the guard rails protecting us from the whims of the federal government.
With so much at stake, it’s crucial to understand the choice we face in the November 4 General Election, whether voting early from October 25 to November 2, voting by mail before November 4, or voting in person on November 4. To help you, we’ve created this Voter FAQ.

Voting in New Jersey
In New Jersey there are three options to vote: voting by mail, in person early voting, or voting on election day.
How do I vote by mail?
Voting by mail is the easiest option for many people, but it does take one additional step to register. To do so, follow this link for a list of applications by county. Select your county, print the application, complete it, and return it to your County Clerk by folding it, taping it, and putting it in the mail (their name and address will appear on the application, and no postage is required). In past elections, registered voters who are not already registered to vote by mail have received this application in the mail leading up to the election. While this may happen again, it can’t hurt to be proactive! Once you’re registered to vote by mail you will receive your ballot in the mail ahead of the election. When you get your ballot complete it according to the instructions printed on it, then return it by either
- Mailing it back — must be postmarked by 8:00 pm on Election Day
- Dropping it in a secure drop box — by 8:00 pm on Election Day

And that’s it! If you have any further questions, see the Frequently Asked Questions.

As you do this, please remember that while the gubernatorial election is the biggest race going on in NJ this year, there are also other elections that will be on your ballot–notably for the State Assembly and for most local school districts. Take the time to be informed about local elections, as these will all have a direct impact on your community! And finally, get out there and VOTE!
